Islamabad (Special Correspondent) \u2014 FIA Islamabad has arrested a superintendent and two inspectors from the Customs Islamabad Investigation and Prosecution wing on charges of bribery and misuse of authority, and registered a case against them. Inspector Shahzeb Ali was allegedly caught red-handed during a raid conducted under the supervision of a magistrate. A five-day physical remand of the suspects has been obtained, and investigations have commenced.<\/p>\n
According to details, Ali Athar, a resident of Rawalpindi, filed a complaint with Director FIA Islamabad Zone Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari, stating that Customs officers, including Inspector Shahzeb and others, allegedly harassed and threatened him in collusion with one another, initially demanding 5.0 million rupees in exchange for undue favor in a pending Customs case, which was later settled at 2.5 million rupees. The suspects also threatened that if the demand was not met, the complainant’s family and associates would also be implicated in the case.<\/p>\n
Upon this, Director FIA Islamabad Zone Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari approved action, following which the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad, under the supervision of a magistrate, raided a caf\u00e9 in Sector I-8, Islamabad. During the raid, Customs Investigation and Prosecution Inspector Shahzeb Ali was allegedly caught red-handed receiving 500,000 rupees as the first installment of the demanded bribe. Marked currency notes were recovered from the suspect, and his mobile phone was also seized.<\/p>\n
According to authorities, initial forensic examination of the mobile phone revealed voice chats that exposed the criminal conspiracy to extort money from the complainant and a plan to harass his family. Consequently, FIR No. 39\/2026 was registered against the suspects under Sections 161 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) 1947.<\/p>\n
The arrested inspector was produced before a court where a 5-day physical remand was obtained to launch an investigation. Based on the lead provided by the arrested suspect, the Superintendent of the Customs Investigation and Prosecution Branch, Fakhar Iqbal Gondal, and another inspector were also arrested. Meanwhile, sources reported that late at night, when the FIA raided to arrest a fourth official (believed to be of inspector rank), he went into hiding inside a Customs office and stayed there overnight, with raids continuing for his arrest.<\/p>\n
The FIR registered by the FIA further states that the accused public servants, in mutual collusion and connivance, committed crimes including the misuse of authority, harassment, and threats of extortion. Therefore, with the approval of the competent authority, an FIR is being registered against the said accused under Sections 161 and 109 of the PPC along with Section 5(2) of the PCA 1947, while the role of Customs Inspector Christopher and others will be determined during the course of the investigation.<\/p>\n
